Emergency room services are being suspended at a rural Saskatchewan hospital due to lack of staff.
The Sunrise Health Region said in a news release Wednesday that acute inpatient admissions and ER services will be suspended at the Preeceville and District Health Centre starting June 1.
The region called it a temporary move until "predictable, consistent and sustainable on-call coverage is secured."
It said the facility is not closing and will still be used for lab and X-ray services, long-term care and as the primary health-care clinic.
The region noted Preeceville has one physician and a nurse practitioner who will continue to provide clinic appointments at the primary health care clinic.
The Opposition NDP health critic Danielle Chartier called the closure unacceptable.
Preeceville is about 300 kilometres east of Saskatoon.
