Winnipeg police have arrested two men in connection with a fatal shooting that happened on Wellington Avenue this week.
Police found 29-year-old George Prieston critically wounded at a home in the 600 block of Wellington Avenue after reports of gunfire at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Prieston was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds to the upper body but died of his injuries.
Police made two arrests on the night of the shooting. On Saturday, police revealed the names of the suspects arrested in what is now a homicide investigation.
Two 25-year-old men — Raymond Ducharme and Shawn Poitra — have been charged with first-degree murder, probation violation and cruelty to animals.
The latter charge stems from injuries Prieston's dog sustained at the home on Wellington. It had been shot and was later put down due to its injuries.
A military-style assault rifle with a high-capacity magazine was use in the shooting, police said. However, investigators still haven't located the gun.
Ducharme and Poitra remain in police custody.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call investigators at 204-986-7983 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
