Rancher would often use his ATV to check on livestock, police said
A rancher in southern Alberta has been found dead, and RCMP say it appears his son died while searching for him.
The search began at 10:30 a.m. Thursday after an 85-year-old rancher was reported missing by family the day before on a property about 15 kilometres southwest of Claresholm in southern Alberta.
RCMP say the rancher would often use his ATV to check on livestock.
The rancher's 60-year-old son, who joined the search on foot, was found dead on the property early Friday. Police believe he died of a medical event, but the investigation remains underway.
Later in the day, the rancher's body was also located. It appears he died of natural causes.
Police say names will not be released.
Claresholm is about 125 kilometres south of Calgary.
