Construction Association of P.E.I. expects all trades will be needed for rebuild
Skilled construction workers may be drawn away from the Island as the restoring and rebuilding efforts in Fort McMurray get underway.
But Construction Association of P.E.I. general manager Sam Sanderson said it's important for everyone to do their part to help.
"I would definitely say that the construction industry here on P.E.I. will see a decrease in available trades people, you know, looking for an opportunity to be part of the rebuild, especially carpenters, plumbers, electricians, drywallers, etc, you know, because they are a specialized trade," Sam Sanderson said.
"And there will be quite a few required for the rebuild in the fastest possible time frame."
Sanderson said this kind of influx of labour from the Atlantic region has happened before, like in 2013 when flooding hit Calgary.
He added members aren't expressing any concern at this point and all are eager to help.
