The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says it has made no arrests in a homicide investigation that launched after a man's body was found outside a St. John's apartment complex this week.

But CBC News has uncovered more information on how homicide victim Marcel Reardon spent his last hours before his body was discovered on Monday.

According to court documents, Reardon was in custody for breaching court orders and was released on Sunday.

Much of the police investigation will likely involve zeroing in on that last day in an attempt to determine where Reardon went after he was released, who he saw and what happened.

Reardon had a minor criminal record, and there were allegations against him of mischief and trespassing. He was due to appear in court in May and June.

Court documents show that he lived for short stints at several different places in town: Empire Avenue, Lime Street and his last known address on Prescott Street.

He was also a familiar face to those who work at the Salvation Army New Hope Centre in St. John's.

Major Hedley Bungay said Reardon often made use of meal programs and other services at the centre.

He described Reardon as a gentleman who had many issues, and said staff at the centre are deeply affected by his death and the "daunting manner in which he died."

Bungay said he last saw him on Thursday while dropping someone off at the DRL bus on Memorial University's campus.

He said Reardon offered to help him with the person's luggage, and that he opened up to him about some personal problems.

According to Bungay, Reardon said he had just been evicted from his home and needed a place to stay.

He said he told him that the Salvation Army had a housing worker on staff that could help him find one.

When the two parted ways, Bungay said Reardon told him he'd see him again soon, but that was the last time they spoke.

On Wednesday, Insp. Paul Woodruff said the RNC has no suspects in the man's homicide, and no arrests have been made.

Police continue to canvass the area, and Woodruff said the RNC has received a lot of tips from members of the public.

"I can understand why the community would have a heightened sense of concern in relation to this incident," said Woodruff. "It's somewhat different from other acts of violence where the persons involved were confirmed to have been known to each other."

He said an investigative team is working full time on solving the crime.

The police are asking anyone who has information on the homicide to contact the RNC or Crime Stoppers.
