A plan that would have seen the eastern P.E.I. community of Montague spend $1.25 million on an old building died on the council chamber floor Monday night.
Councillors were scheduled to vote on a deal that would have seen it pay $250,000 to buy the Clark's Building on Main Street, then spend another million fixing it up.
But when the motion was presented no councillor stood up to second it.
Councillors voted in favour of the plan in April. What happens next is not clear.
Montague Waterfront manager Andrew Rowe has expressed support for the plan, but some councillors were fighting against it, saying the town should not be in the rental business.
