Autopsies continue on victims who were found dead inside burning home over the weekend
More than 48 hours after a house fire killed five people in northeast Calgary, police are still working to determine whether anything about the blaze was criminal in nature.
The fire was first reported at about 1:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Falchurch Crescent N.E., and firefighters arrived to find one home engulfed in flames and another beginning to burn.
The bodies of five adult men were recovered from the house where the fire originated.
Elizabeth Banguot has lived next door for a few years, and said the owner's wife and children moved away a few months ago, and four other men moved in.
She's hoping for answers soon.
"We feel sad and nervous and we don't know what happened. What is the cause of the fire? We don't know it," she said.
At this point, she'll still have to wait.
"Investigators are still interviewing witnesses and awaiting the completion of autopsies on the victims, and therefore have not yet determined if there is anything suspicious about this fire," police said Monday in a release.
It is standard procedure for police to investigate fires that involve fatalities.
The autopsies are expected to be completed later Monday or sometime on Tuesday.
Anyone with information about the fire that has not already spoken to police is asked to call investigators at 403-266-1234 or by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
