'Multiple people stopped her ... they recognized her and were so happy for her'
Fort McMurray bride Élise Boissonneault was all set to be married in Toronto this weekend when a wildfire on the outskirts of the Alberta town engulfed it along with her wedding dress.
On Saturday, Boissonneault and her partner, Brandon, had the wedding they had planned at the Rectory Café on the Toronto Islands.
Boissonneault made headlines earlier this week when 100 wedding dresses were offered to her from Torontonians across the city who wanted to help make the bride's wedding dream a reality.
The offers of dresses, along with offers for hair styling and jewelry, came after Boissonneault's friend took to Facebook hoping to track down a gown to match the one she lost in the fire.
After narrowly missing the devastation back at home, photographer Alex Neary said the couple are enjoying newlywed bliss.
"Everyone cheered for her when she got off the ferry and multiple people stopped her on the island because they recognized her and were so happy for her," Neary said via email.
