It was a caving adventure one man will likely never forget after he got stuck in Rat's Nest Cave near Canmore, Alta., and had to spend the night while rescuers furiously worked around him to get him free.

Rescue crews got the call to Grotto Mountain just before 11 p.m. after the guide of a caving tour worked for hours trying to get his client out of the area called the Laundry Chute.
"He was descending through that piece of terrain and at one point ... he wasn't able to get out the other side, so thankfully he was able to wiggle himself back up into a slightly more comfortable spot, but still very confined," said Jeremy Mackenzie from Kananaskis Country Public Safety (KCPS).
After not being able to free him, the guide went to the mouth of the cave — as there is no cell reception — to call for help.
Drill and chisels used to free caver
More than 50 people from Canmore Fire-Rescue, Alberta-B.C. Cave Rescue, KCPS and Alberta Health Services paramedics were on hand to help.
Mackenzie said they had to use drills and chisels to free the uninjured man. They worked all night and were able to get him out of the cave around 6 a.m., but he was able to climb out of the cave on his own.
"He was very happy to see the light of day and the trees outside," said Christian Stenner from the Alberta-B.C. Cave Rescue.
