A student at P.E.I.'s Holland College student, just finishing her first year in business administration, has been handed the keys to a new car in recognition of her successful year.
Tara Maddix was chosen as the winner of Earn a Car Award — driving away in a 2015 Nissan Micra.
Four other students, Nicole Christiansen, Jillian Curley, Nathan Lynde, and David Andrew MacKenzie, received $1,000 prizes.
The prizes were donated by Calgary businessman and former Islander Lou MacEachern. Forty-four students were nominated for the award for their outstanding efforts. The top five nominees were announced last week.
Candidates were nominated by faculty and staff on the basis of merit, character, and academic achievement.
MacEachern said the goal is to motivate students to work toward achieving their personal best. He plans to offer the award again next year.
