Winnipeg police are still on scene Monday after spending hours at a home in the North End Saturday and Sunday investigating a homicide.
Investigators arrived at a home in the 500 block of Redwood Avenue at about 10 a.m. on Saturday. Police said a woman in her 30s was found dead, but have yet to release the victim's name, while they work on notifying next of kin.
"At this point we can't confirm the identity yet, we are still waiting for some last pieces there and family notification, unfortunately," said police spokesperson Const. Rob Carver. "We've [had] investigators working on it all weekend, but I can't give you any updates specifically in terms of nature of the homicide itself or suspects."
Joseph Therrien said he lives across the street and heard people arguing in the house before police arrived.
"All I can honestly say is I was downstairs watching TV, I can hear a bunch of yelling and then that was it. And then it went quiet," he said. "Next thing you know I hear a bunch of sirens. I'm thinking, 'They're going to [drive past], of course.' But it just abruptly stops here."
Kim Neumann, who lives next door to the home under investigation, said she was shocked to learn about the homicide.
Police knocked on her door Saturday morning to ask whether she knew the victim, Neumann said.
Despite not knowing the woman very well, Neumann said she seemed like a "friendly person."
Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call investigators at 204-986-7983 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
