Motorists advised to be careful, some roads have water
Rapid snow melt has led to some local flooding around Canora, Sask., according to officials with the province's water agency.
The Water Security Agency issued a statement Wednesday noting that warm weather earlier in the week resulted in "a rapid melt of snow pack and is creating a significant response in stream flows".
The agency said some spots on roadways were covered in water and motorists were being advised to be very careful.
"Tributaries to the Whitesand River and Good Spirit Lake, including Spirit Creek and Crooked Hill Creek, are flowing out of bank and are creating localized flooding issues," the agency's statement said.
People interested in water levels for Good Spirit Lake were told that the lake will likely reach its peak level in early May and the peak will be lower than what was experienced in 2014.
Still, the agency said some low lying areas could be affected by water, possibly as early as next week.
The agency noted that a permanent berm was built to protect areas that were affected by flooding issues in 2010.
