A 22-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Gabriel Nikov, 18, last week in the Yonge and Bloor area.
Police have identified the accused as Bradley Cheveldayoff. They say he was arrested Sunday.
Toronto police were called to Yonge Street north of Bloor just after 8 p. m. Wednesday, April 13, by reports that five shots had been fired.
A woman at the scene who knew Nikov told CBC News she saw her friend get into an altercation before the gunfire erupted. She said she administered CPR before paramedics arrived.
"There was no fight, just an argument and that was it," she told CBC News on Wednesday.
Nikov was rushed to hospital via emergency run but was later pronounced dead.
The shooting took place near a Tim Hortons, Starbucks and Jack Astor's. At the time, police said they were searching for three suspects. There's no word on the search for the other two men.
Nikov, who was known as Gabe to his friends, was a student at Central Toronto Academy on Shaw Street.
Cheveldayoff was scheduled to appear in court at 10 a. m. Monday morning at College Park.
