There will be no 2016-2017 season for Lennoxville's Centennial Theatre.
The theatre is owned by Bishop's University. On Monday, a spokesman for the university said it was unable to find $150,000 in external funding to support the costs of programming.
In a statement, the university's executive committee said the institution's "serious" financial situation has forced it to make the decision as part of an effort to balance its budget.
"It is with great regret that we came to this decision," said Miles Turnbull, Bishop's vice-principal of academics.
Centennial will remain open for student performances and be available for rent.
