Lethbridge police have charged a 46-year-old man with 28 criminal offences after pulling "numerous weapons, ammunition and suspected explosive devices" inside his residence.
Officers checked the north-end house after taking the man into custody for uttering threats and a firearms complaint.
Once officers realized what was inside, they called in the city's explosive disposal unit and the Department of National Defence as well as criminal investigators to initiate a search warrant.
Police found a small arsenal inside, including machine guns — one dating from the First World War — as well as rifles, handguns, ammunition, gas masks and a small amount of drugs.
According to police, several other items from the house were taken by the Department of National Defence and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team for testing. Further charges could be laid pending the results.
