CBC Vancouver is partnering with REEL CANADA, Explore Asian, The Vancouver International Film Festival and The Vancouver Asian Film Festival to celebrate National Canadian Film Day on April 20th. The evening will be hosted by CBC Vancouver News' Andrew Chang.
Over 125 new immigrants, film enthusiasts and students will gather at CBC Vancouver and view the film Sabah in Studio 700. Sabah stars Arsinée Khanjian as Sabah, a traditional Muslim woman living in Toronto. She falls in love with Stephen, a non-Muslim Canadian man (played by Shawn Doyle). Unbeknownst to her family, she goes on a whirlwind affair before both culture and love collide.
Following the film, Andrew Chang will moderate a panel discussion with:
- Mohammed Alsaleh, Resettlement Assistance Program Counsellor, Immigrant Services Society of BC
- Chris Friesen, Director of Settlement Services, Immigrant Services Society of BC
- Ruba Nadda, Director and Writer of Sabah
National Canadian Film Day brings Canadians together around great cinematic stories and allows Canadians to embrace their national identity through film across the country.
