Thomas Hanaway was also arrested in 2010 for claiming to be a Manitoba police officer
Manitoba RCMP have arrested Thomas Hanaway, 58, for impersonating a police officer, again.
Members of the Manitoba RCMP Major Crime Unit executed a search warrant on Wednesday after receiving multiple complaints from across North America about a police officer inappropriately using social media and other online forums, said RCMP in a news release.
Police allege Hanaway used the name of an active police officer within Manitoba to communicate with others online.
He was charged with three counts of impersonating a police officer and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
In 2010 RCMP arrested Hanaway for a similar offence. RCMP alleged Hanaway entered a military veterans' legion in East St. Paul where he identified himself as a commander of the local RCMP detachment.
He was later found guilty and served a 60-day sentence.
In the past Hanaway went under the name Tom Hanna, said RCMP in 2010.
Hanaway is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
