A Thunder Bay, Ont., woman who was hit by a car on High Street earlier this month has started a petition asking the city to paint crossings on the street so pedestrians can reach Hillcrest Park safely.
Jane Taylor was walking her dog, Rosie, home from the park on March 18 when a car turning left onto High Street struck both of them.
Taylor suffered minor injuries, she said. Rosie bled internally but did not break any bones, she added.

"It was very traumatic and made me think, 'I need to do something about it,'" Taylor said.
"I know that a lot of people in this neighbourhood are concerned about this road, and this is not the first accident that has occurred, and so I thought that since we are ok, it would be really good perhaps to try and draw more attention from the city to this area, because there's a lot of traffic here."
Taylor launched a petition on the web site Change.org, addressed to ward councillor Brian McKinnon and councillors Aldo Ruberto and Rebecca Johnson, asking the city to create painted crossings at the intersections of High and Beresford Streets and High and Bay Streets.
"I think we're almost at 200 [signatures]. I think people think it's worth it," she said.
Taylor is also currently working to set up a meeting with Johnson and Ruberto, she added.
