Forough Khadem is a PhD student in immunology, University of Manitoba. Her passion is to contribute her time towards research and partnership building in translational life sciences.
Her research focuses on understanding the mechanisms involved in developing immunity to a deadly infectious disease (leishmaniasis).
Forough has successfully identified a novel drug target for treatment of the disease. Her findings have been published in five journals, with one being highlighted on the cover page of a prestigious journal.
Forough has received the Research Manitoba Studentship Award and presented her work as a finalist in the 3MT competition, invited speaker in four meetings and 15 poster presentations, of which she received nine travel and seven poster awards.
She has been involved in school politics to enhance the quality of student life and education, and volunteered for leadership and teaching roles in community outreach programs to develop interest in Manitoba's youth towards science.
