A suspect is in custody as Surrey RCMP officers investigate a possible early-morning homicide.
Mounties were called to reports of a disturbance at a home in the 10100 block of 128 Street(external link) just after 5:30 a.m. PT on Sunday.
They found a female in her 60s suffering from life threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say they believe the death followed an altercation between a man and at least two women inside the home.
"The investigation is still in its early stages, but the suspect has been arrested from the scene," said Surrey RCMP in a release, adding that the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is now working on the case.
Residents living near the home say the incident is "upsetting" and that most neighbours know each other and get along.
Neighbours say that the woman killed, a grandmother, lived in the home with her son's family.
Parmvir Gill's family lives next door to them; he says he's only really ever said hello to the son.
"Every time I've seen him, he was pretty quiet," he said.
IHIT is expected to release more information about the death on Monday.
