The City of Regina and the construction company building the new football stadium opened the project's doors again today for another sneak peek at the project.

According to the city, construction will start in May on the terrace area on the ground at the northeast corner of the stadium.

The terrace is supposed to provide a gathering area during stadium events.

Once complete, the terrace will include 1,300 metres of new sidewalks, 134 trees and 173 shrubs, according to a news release from the city.

It will also include 28,600 square metres of asphalt surfacing, seating and rest areas and pedestrian lighting.

"This gathering place has the potential to be a game-changer for our community," Mayor Michael Fougere said. "The terrace concept will enhance the level and kinds of activity that takes place around all kinds of different events."

"As work moves forward, the new stadium is beginning to take shape for the 2017 opening," Fougere said. "To patrons of Evraz Place and area residents, we say 'Thank you for your patience — we are confident the results will be worth it.'"

The $278-million stadium will be the new home for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

According Sean Hamelin, the manager on site with PCL construction, stadium construction is about 77 per cent complete.

"Over the next number of weeks, final excavation of the field will start and installation of the Fabritech spectator roof material will begin. We are also going to begin installing seats on the east side," Hamelin said.

Hamelin said good weather the past two winters has helped keep the project on track.

"The winter was obviously a very good one from everybody's perspective. We still had our days where the cranes couldn't work or it was too windy," he said.

"But overall the weather has been great. We can't complain about it."
