Bundle up, Manitobans: temperatures across the province are in the –20 C range on Monday morning, but with the wind chill it feels more like –30 or colder, and it's going to feel much the same throughout the day.
Winnipeggers are waking up to a temperature of –25 C at 6 a.m. With the wind chill, it feels more like –37 due to northerly winds of 21 km/h.
While the mercury is expected to go up to –17 C later in the day, it's still supposed to feel more like –38 with the wind chill. Winds may gust up to 50 km/h early in the day.
Expect more of the same on Monday night, with a low of –28 C that will feel more like –36 with the wind chill.
The deep freeze isn't expected to last too long. Temperatures are expected to climb later this week, with an expected high of –3 C on Friday and 3 C on Sunday.
The windy conditions combined with some snowfall made for poor driving conditions on some highways Sunday night and early Monday morning.
A number of highways were closed Sunday night, including part of the Trans-Canada Highway. All affected roads have since reopened, with the exception of Highway 16 between Highway 50 and Highway 10. Check the Manitoba government's highway conditions website(external link) for updated details.
