A woman who was lost in the woods for 12 days trying to escape the man who attacked her, saw him sentenced to six years in prison today.
Kevin Roy Gladue, 38, was convicted by a jury in Red Deer of the aggravated sexual assault of a 25-year-old woman in July 2013.
The pair had been offroading near the O'Chiese First Nation by Rocky Mountain House when the truck they were in got stuck. Other passengers left to go get help and the victim fell asleep in the back seat.
She woke up to find Gladue pulling her pants down. The woman tried to run away but Gladue chased her and struck her in the face with an object. She ran into the nearby woods to escape him but got lost and wasn't found for 12 days.
When she was found, the victim had suffered significant weight loss by existing on berries, and water from the river and was nursing a broken jaw.

'She's not out of the woods'

"Even though she came out of the forest ... she's not out of the woods," said Justice Kirk Sisson of victim's lasting physical and mental injuries.
She lost teeth in the attack and has undergone surgeries to repair her jaw.
'[The victim] will literally and figuratively bear her scars for the rest of her life," said Sisson who called the assault a "brutal and unprovoked attack on a young woman who was vulnerable and alone."
Gladue will get 10 months credit for the time he's already served.
Sisson also ordered Gladue pay the victim nearly $9,000 in restitution.
