The River Clyde pageant has received federal funding to stage a multi-venue outdoor theatre production in New Glasgow, P.E.I. this summer.

The group received $14,000 from the Canada Council Artists and Community Collaboration program which is less than what it sought, said Ker Wells, one of the artistic directors.

"It's still a very handsome amount of money that will allow us to do the basic plan of what we wanted to do but we're hoping to raise somewhere around $10,000 more so that we can cover all our costs and we can pay honoraria," he said.

"We thought one of the best parts was the letters of support we got from people in the community. A big part of this grant program is that this project needs to be a reflection of the community where it's being done."

The production will center around the theme of keeping rivers healthy and will be created and performed by community members.

Rehearsals will start in June and the production will be held at the end of July.
