Frontman for rock band says he's 'a raw nerve' after Nov. 13 concert hall massacre
Jesse Hughes, frontman of the U.S. band whose Nov.13, 2015 gig at the Bataclan theatre in Paris was stormed by extremist suicide bombers who killed 89 people, says, "My friends died very beautifully, they died very well, with great courage."
The Eagles of Death Metal band kicked off its rescheduled European tour Saturday in Stockholm three months to the day after the Paris carnage. The California band will play at the Olympia Theatre in Paris on Tuesday.
In an emotional interview on Sweden's TV4 channel, Hughes spoke with tears running down his cheeks. He said, "I am a raw nerve."
Hughes, co-founder of the band, recalled that in Paris he "didn't see a single coward, I didn't see anyone doing anything cowardly."
He said he "instantly knew what was happening" on the Friday night before band members dispersed to escape the carnage. "There is heaviness in my heart."
A total of 130 people were killed in the French capital in co-ordinated attacks.
The band was scheduled to perform at Stockholm's Debaser Medis club before travelling to Oslo for a concert Sunday. The tour ends in Cologne, Germany in August.
