Guitarist Andrew Boyd is pretty modest when he speaks about the success of his band Waterfront Fire.
"We've been doing OK with it," Boyd laughed, during an interview with CBC News Friday.
The alternative rock band just released their first professional music video for their song First Light, off their debut album of the same name that was released in September.
Coming off a successful 2015, with a Music NL win for Alternative Recording of the Year, the band is hoping to make waves far away from home — in Trinidad and Tobago.
The band was chosen for Bell Community One's show Club One New Releases, which brings bands from Atlantic Canada to the Caribbean for collaborations.
"Nothing like a trip to Trinidad in March. We were floored," Boyd said of finding out the news.
"Between now and [the trip], we've been emailing back and forth with this band and we're going to collaborate on a couple songs when we're down there."
In April, the bands from Trinidad and Tobago are coming to Atlantic Canada.
Boyd said they'll be matched up with a string quartet.
"We're going to be heading more to Hey Rosetta!'s direction now with them."
Waterfront Fire's lead singer Jordan Coaker, from Conception Bay South, bassist Cody O'Quinn, drummer Ryan Tobin, guitarist Ben Thistle and Boyd, all from Stephenville, have been playing around St. John's for a little over two years.
St. John's singer Katie Baggs and alternative band Cabbages and Kings are also taking part in the exchange trip.
Waterfront Fire leaves Feb. 28 for Trinidad and Tobago.
