Eighteen people are without work at Evraz Steel.
The steel-making company confirmed the layoffs in an emailed statement to CBC Friday morning.
"Like other producers, we are facing economic challenges from excessive imports and the sharp downturn in oil prices," the statement read in part.
Many of the steel company's customers are in the pipeline and oil industries.
It provided no other details about the layoffs.
