A 20-year-old man charged with second-degree murder after his 58-year-old father was found dead last month at a Halifax apartment has been sent for a court-ordered psychiatric assessment.
The body of Frank John Lampe of Labrador was discovered in the hallway of an apartment building at 10 Harlington Cres. in Clayton Park on the night of Jan. 21.
His 20-year-old son, Elias Lampe, was found a short time later near a Halifax Transit stop on Willett Street. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Elias Lampe was released from hospital Monday and was arrested around 8:20 a.m. without incident, police said.
In addition to murder, he faces a charge of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He appeared in Halifax provincial court Tuesday morning. He's been sent to the East Coast Forensic Hospital for a fitness assessment and will return to court March 10.
Police say the father and son lived together at the Harlington Crescent apartment.
