Investigators say Carter was found by family members stabbed to death inside her home

Lethbridge police are investigating the city's first homicide of the year.
Police now say the 78-year-old woman who was found dead inside her home on Sunday was stabbed to death.
She has been identified as Irene Carter.
The death was initially being treated as suspicious until an autopsy confirmed it as a homicide.
Police first responded to Carter's home in the 300 block of Normandy Road South shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, after family members who were unable to reach her on the phone went to the house and discovered her body.
Investigators are still trying to sort out the series of events that led to Carter's death.
