Mossey family ran a general store in Bothwell for almost 200 years
A family in the far eastern corner of P.E.I. is celebrating the official naming of a road that bears their name.
They were very helpful, very kind, and they really reached out. You know, it's that P.E.I. thing. - Roseanne Mossey
The province put up the new Mossey Road sign in the community of Bothwell, east of Basin Head, in early November. The lane runs from the old Mossey's General Store, down to what's known as Mossey's Beach.
The store was founded by J.F. Mossey in the early 1800s, the family stopped operating it in 1986.
Mary-Katherine Mossey said the family made a request to the provincial Department of Transportation to make it happen.
"They helped guide us. We explained the historical significance of the meaning to the community, and they went through all the necessary steps," said Mossey.
"They were very helpful, very kind, and they really reached out. You know, it's that P.E.I. thing. They're like, 'Yes, we understand this. We want to make something happen.' That's going to special for Bothwell. It's going to be special for the people of the community, for them to remember in another 100 years."
Mossey said seeing the sign standing in place brought her to tears.
