The New York Times has released its list of 52 Places to Go in 2016(external link) in its travel section and Toronto has grabbed a top spot – number seven – on the list.
"Toronto is remaking itself as Canada's premier city," the section says, declaring the largest city in Canada is "ready for its close-up."
The list, which is released annually by the Times, highlights Toronto's growing green spaces, public art, as well as its bike and pedestrian paths.
It also mentions how Toronto plays host to several cultural and sporting events, including the Toronto International Film Festival each September and the upcoming 2016 N.B.A. All-Star game, which will be held at Air Canada Centre on Feb. 16.
Mexico City topped the list which described it as "a metropolis that has it all."
The only other Canadian place on the list of 52 destinations is the Southern Gulf Islands in B.C. which holds the 50th spot.
Last year, Quebec City and Squamish, B.C. were on the list at number 40 and 32, respectively.
