Calgary police need help finding witnesses to a brutal attack that left a man so badly beaten he was found unconscious with a fractured skull on Monday.
The 22-year-old victim is now conscious and speaking with investigators, who have charged a suspect with robbery and assaulting a peace officer.
If police find witnesses to the earlier assault, they may be able to lay more charges.
The 30-year-old suspect is accused of attacking the victim around 2:30 a.m. on Monday for the purpose of robbing him of his cellphone at 11th Avenue and First Street southeast.
When officers arrived, they were told by a passerby that a man flagged them down, told them to call 911 and then ran away.
A description of that man was circulated and officers arrested someone nearby.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the robbery and assault to contact them at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers.(external link)
