The 30-year-old suspect is accused of attacking the victim around 2:30 a.m. on Monday for the purpose of robbing him of his cellphone at 11th Avenue and First Street southeast.
When officers arrived, they were told by a passerby that a man flagged them down, told them to call 911 and then ran away.
A description of that man was circulated and officers arrested someone nearby.
Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the robbery and assault to contact them at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers.
