Friends and family of Rosemarie (Kim) Junor gathered at a church in Scarborough Tuesday to mourn the loss of a young woman they described as being "full of life."
Junor, 28, died after she was stabbed in downtown Toronto last Friday in an attack police say was unprovoked.
"We were here for her wedding in August and it's sad that we have to attend her funeral today," said Junor's cousin, Valerie Budhwa, who travelled from New York City for today's event.
"We didn't expect anything like this to happen," she added. "She was a woman full of life. She had so much potential."
Another relative leaving Tuesday's funeral described Junor's death as "a very sad and tragic situation."
"I pray that the Lord bless here wherever she may go," she said.
The service begin a little after 10 a.m. as pallbearers carried her casket into the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine on St. Clair Avenue East.
Junor died in hospital five days after she was attacked in a Shoppers Drug Mart store. The store is located inside the PATH system of underground pedestrian passages and shops beneath Toronto's downtown core.
In the days after Junor's death, nearly $30,000 in donations poured in to pay her funeral expenses. The GoFundMe campaign surpassed its $25,000 target within a day of its launch by her brother Miguel Junor.
Rohinie Bisesar, 40, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Junor's death. She is scheduled back in court on Jan. 8.
