Westgate Shopping Centre's future up for discussion Wednesday night

Ottawa's oldest mall is set to become a number of mixed-use highrises
Ottawa residents will meet tonight to hear about plans from RioCan to transform the Westgate Shopping Centre into a series of mixed-use towers.
RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust has released images of the multiphase plan which would culminate in the opening of the five towers. The buildings would include both commercial space and 28 floors of residences.
The Westgate Shopping Centre, located at the corner of Carling Avenue and Merivale Road, was Ottawa's first mall, opening in the 1950s.
Couns. Riley Brockington and Jeff Leiper are hosting tonight's community meeting which is set to run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Best Western Hotel at 1309 Carling Ave.
On his website, Brockington said the meeting will be an opportunity for residents to speak with RioCan, architects, planners and municipal staff, before applications are submitted to the city.
