The finishing touches are being put on the Gordon Oakes Redbear Student Centre at the University of Saskatchewan.

The 1,884 square-metre building was designed by renowned Métis and Blackfoot architect Douglas Cardinal and is projected to cost $17 million.

"The building will be an inclusive, intercultural gathering place for the entire campus community," said a release from the U of S.

The grand opening celebrations are expected in early February. Once open, the centre will house the Aboriginal Students' Centre and aboriginal student leadership groups. There will be additional space for gatherings and ceremonies.
