The jury will be given instructions on how to reach a verdict in the second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland Tuesday morning in Saint John.
The process is expected to take more than a day and Judge John Walsh advised the jurors to bring a bag with them, because they will be sequestered until they can reach a unanimous verdict.
The lawyers made the statements on Monday while delivering their closing arguments to the jury in the Saint John courtroom.
They presented two vastly different versions of the evidence, but both urged the jurors to use common sense in deciding the case in their favour.
Crown prosecutor P.J. Veniot says Dennis Oland killed his father, Richard Oland, and that is the "only rational, inescapable conclusion" the jury at the murder trial must reach.
But defence lawyer Alan Gold contends the jurors are no closer to knowing who killed the prominent New Brunswick businessman in 2011.
