Long before the final cut, Adam Sandler's The (external link)Ridiculous 6(external link) was one of the most controversial films of the year. Although its producers describe it as a satirical taste on the old western, several critics — including some aboriginal actors who walked off the set — said it reinforced damaging stereotypes about indigenous people.
Following this weekend's release, guest host Talia Schlanger checks in with Allie Young, an extra that quit after hearing an elder's concerns, as well as indigenous filmmaker Danis Goulet.
Young describes the rift that quickly developed behind the scenes, and Goulet explains why she doesn't buy the satire defense.
