Police also offer tips on safe buy-and-sell exchanges
If you're buying or selling online, the Calgary Police Service wants to make an offer.
CPS says people can now use its district office parking lots as safe spots where items purchased online can be exchanged for money.
Police believe their parking lots, which are under surveillance at all times, may deter illegal activity, though officers will not be directly involved in any exchanges or negotiations.

"Online classified and auction sites have been used as a tool to sell stolen property to unknowing victims, and can present a safety threat," reads a release sent out by CPS today.
In the past, criminals have used sites like Kijiji to facilitate illegal activity, including violence in some cases.
Police tips for safer buy-sell experience
- Meet in a public place with many people around, such as a Calgary Police Service district office.
If possible, bring a friend or a family member. - When buying or selling, you should meet in-person to inspect the product before exchanging money.
- Keep things local and in cash; don't use cheques or money-wiring services.
- Do not give out personal or banking information (e.g. social insurance number, bank account number or address) over the internet.
- In the case of suspected fraud, file a police report.
- Use common sense. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
