One woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a hit and run in the city's southeast.

Details are sparse at this time, with witnesses saying the woman was struck by either a small red car or a pickup truck.

The incident took place during rush hour at the intersection of Midlake Boulevard and Bannister Road S.E.

The intersection was closed while police conducted an initial investigation but has since reopened.
