Prime Minister Justin Trudeau extended congratulations to Liberal premier-designate Dwight Ball following Monday night's election, and committed to active and open dialogue between the federal and provincial governments.
The prime minister first took to social media to congratulate the incoming premier.
Trudeau also issued an official statement on the election's results. He expressed his desire to work with Ball's government in areas like the economy, health, and aboriginal issues.
"I look forward to working with the new government of Newfoundland and Labrador to create jobs, grow our economy, strengthen our middle class, bolster health care services, improve the well-being of Indigenous peoples, and safeguard our environment," Trudeau said.
The prime minister expressed his interest in keeping lines of communication open with Ball as well.
"I believe that confronting our collective challenges can only be achieved by sitting down together and engaging in open dialogue, and I look forward to the opportunity to work with premier-designate Ball," he said.
Trudeau also thanked outgoing premier Paul Davis for his service to the province.
