Newly elected Winnipeg Centre MP Robert-Falcon Ouellette is running for Speaker of the House of Commons.
Next week, MPs from across Canada will vote on their next speaker on Dec. 3.
In the meantime, Ouellette plans to get in touch with many of them to ask for their support.
He's also calling on Winnipeggers to contact their MPs and lobby for him as well.
Ouellette said in a Facebook post if he's elected he will "elevate the debate" and "make sure that the people's work gets done."
He also pointed to his past in the military, saying he has experience "working with and enforcing the rules."
If elected, Ouellette would be the first indigenous Speaker of the House.
