LaSalle town council has hired a consulting firm to study two neighbourhoods plagued by recent flooding issues.
Stantec Consulting will analyze infrastructure needs for Heritage Estates and Oliver Farms, two areas that suffered severe damage after heavy rains flooded dozens of properties this summer.
The company will specifically look at drainage issues and make recommendations for improvements, according to a staff report that went to council this week.
LaSalle's public works staff found that aging drainage systems contributed to the flooding. They also identified problems of water flow coming from nearby Ministry of Transportation property during construction of the new Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway.
"There was some surface water directed toward the town property and residential properties," said Peter Marra, director of public works. "That has since been eliminated or removed through work the MTO has done. They're maintaining their own water on their own site at this point."
The town will now wait until Stantec finishes its study, which is anticipated to be completed in spring of 2016. At that point a report will go to council with recommendations on how to improve drainage issues.
The Stantec study will also provide initial design plans for a complete reconstruction of Oliver Farms, Marra explained. The town is looking to put in all new watermains and storm sewers during a complete overhaul of roads.
