Saskatchewan's premier says the latest news regarding the Keystone XL pipeline underscores the need for a pipeline to eastern Canada.
Brad Wall is reacting to news that the company which had been pushing for approval is now asking for a delay in the process.
Wall says he assumes TransCanada is doing what it deems best for the future of the project.
"Obviously we're supporters of Keystone for the reasons that we've stated already: If we get more Canadian oil to tidewater, we'll be able to get a greater price for our oil, we'll have more customers for our oil and that's good for the owners of the resource which is the people of Saskatchewan."
Wall says the further delay to a proposed pipeline through the United States underscores the need for one through this country.
"This really highlights the importance of Energy East. Because we know Gateway's not going to happen — it doesn't have the support even of the Alberta government — we know Keystone is delayed at the very best. So we need Energy East."
