A fall storm is set to slam the GTA on Wednesday, with the heaviest downpours forecast to hit during the morning rush hour.

The storm — driven by the remnants of Hurricane Patricia merging with a clipper system coming from the west — could generate between 40-60 millimetres of rainfall. The rain is expected to start coming down in the early morning hours, possibly around 4 or 5 a.m., and become heavier during the commuting hours, according to CBC meteorologist Jay Scotland.

The rain will keep falling throughout the day and could affect the afternoon commute as well.

Strong wind gusts between 40-70 km/h are also possible during the storm and could cause some tree damage, especially closer to the lakeshore where they'll be stronger.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Toronto and parts of the GTA about the storm. The agency warned the storm's winds may cause some local power outages, as well.

As a plus, the temperature will rise to a high of 17 C.
