A man, 20, was arrested in Winnipeg on Thursday for allegedly spray-painting a building on Oct. 10 — an act that the landlord caught on camera and posted to Facebook one week ago.
Katherine Peters, the property owner who posted the video, said she is "amazed" at how effective Facebook was in tracking down the suspect.
Peters owns the building at 2145 Portage Ave. that was vandalized.
Around the beginning of October, she had five or six HD-quality security cameras installed, which allows her to monitor activity from home, work or on her phone, by way of an app.
On Oct. 16, she posted photos and a video that show a young man spray-painting her building with graffiti, and the posts went viral, the video itself collecting more than 3,000 shares and more than 90,000 views.
Peters said the posts were an effort to stop what she calls an "ongoing frustration," and she is happy an arrest has been made.
She said the man was identified through a "friend of a friend."
