Acadie-Bathurst tilts to Liberal Serge Cormier

Long-time NDP MP Yvon Godin retired from federal politics after serving 18 years in Acadie-Bathurst
The northeastern riding of Acadie-Bathurst has voted Liberal after 18 years of being represented by the NDP's Yvon Godin.
Liberal candidate Serge Cormier was running against NDP candidate Jason Godin, Conservative candidate Riba Girouard-Riordon and Green candidate Dominique Breau.
Cormier captured 49.3 per cent of the vote with 105 of 239 polls reporting.
New Democrat Jason Godin — no relation to the former MP — had 41.3 per cent support.
Conservative Riba Girouard-Riordon was running third with 7.2 per cent support, while Green candidate Dominique Breau had 2.2 per cent.
The Acadie-Bathurst riding includes the northeastern city of Bathurst as well as communities in the Acadian Peninsula.
The riding has been a safe NDP seat since Yvon Godin won the riding in 1997.
The region consistently has the highest unemployment level in the province.
