MLAs take to Twitter to criticize 'urgent' letter asking for provincial PCs to support federal party
Ric McIver, interim leader of the Alberta Progressive Conservatives, was quickly criticized by current and former colleagues after he sent an "urgent" letter to the Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta (PCAA) asking them to "get out and support the Conservative Party on Monday."
Some were angered by the blanket endorsement" and jumped on social media to give McIver pushback on the correspondence.
Calgary-Northwest MLA Sandra Jansen tweeted that caucus did not consent to McIver's letter, and party members didn't agree to it either.
Former MLA Thomas Lukaszuk's tweet called McIver's endorsement as "inappropriate" as Premier Rachel Notley throwing her support behind Thomas Mulcair, the leader of the federal NDP.
In a letter on his Facebook page today, Lukaszuk wrote that because he had criticized Notley for endorsing the federal NDP, he would treat the issue equally within the PC party.
Corrections:
- An earlier version of this story stated that Ric McIver had removed the endorsements from his social media accounts. This is not the case. October 20, 2015 10:21 PM
