Fort Saskatchewan woman fatally shot Friday
Dozens of friends and neighbours of 46-year-old Colleen Sillito gathered last night in front of the home where her body was found along with that of a 54-year-man.
"I think it has shocked everyone on our street and in Fort Saskatchewan," said vigil organizer Jill Desmet. "As a community we were hurting and feeling the loss that happened on our street and we felt that we wanted to do something for Colleen and her family."
Friends described Sillito as local artist, photographer and mother.
Police are releasing few details but neighbours have told CBC News that Sillito was shot to death by an ex-boyfriend.
The community has also hung purple ribbons throughout the neighbourhood in support of victims of domestic violence.
"Purple ribbons (stand) for domestic violence and we decided to stand together as a community and we are going to be putting purple ribbons on the trees in our crescent to signify what happened here," Desmet said.
Sillito was found outside the house on Alderson Close Friday morning following reports of gunshots.
Children who lived in the home were not at the scene at the time of the shooting, police said.
