A natural gas well that has been spewing gas and condensate in northwest Alberta for six days has finally been capped.
Encana crews capped the damaged wellhead in the Duvernay area, near Fox Creek, just before 2 p.m. Sunday.
In a news release, Encana spokesman Jay Averill said the company will ensure any environmental damage will be remediated.
"There is an environmental team on the ground assessing the area and developing a remediation plan," he said. "In addition, we are working to determine the cause of the incident in order to prevent a similar incident from happening in the future."
The Alberta Energy Regulator said there was no impact on area waterways or wildlife.
Fox Creek is about 260 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
