2nd person arrested 'remains a strong person of interest,' say Calgary police
A 46-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in the 2013 death of Anthony James Fernandez.
The 19-year-old was found dead inside a maroon 2009 Mazda 6 in Bridgeland on Dec. 27 in the 1200 block of Colgrove Avenue N.E.
Police said the car had been set on fire, destroying much of the evidence, but an autopsy determined he was killed in the early hours of Christmas Day.
Two suspects were taken into police custody in connection with the investigation, and the man charged — who police say has no fixed address — appeared in court Wednesday.
"The second individual was released from police custody early this morning, but remains a strong person of interest in the case," said police in a release. "The investigation is ongoing, but police are not looking for any other suspects at this point."
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or Calgary Crime Stoppers.
